Registered nurses (RNs) play a key role within healthcare delivery and provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities, and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being.

Nurses follow nursing processes and use critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making in their role as well as teaching, counseling, and advocating on behalf of patients and their families

Duties

  • Provide nursing services within a defined scope of practice
  • Follow the nursing process
  • Observe, assess, monitor and document patient symptoms, reactions and progress
  • Administer medications and injections
  • Assist physicians during procedures
  • Work collaboratively with other nurses and healthcare practitioners
  • Provide education and information to patients, families, and caregivers

  • Care for people who are sick or injured, and help them recover
  • Teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients
